While searching for inspiration for this activity, I stumbled upon this article regarding the lawsuit recently filed against Kanye West by German singer Alice Merton for copyright infringement. He asked her for permission to sample one of her songs for his album Vultures 2, but she declined. He decided to sample it anyway.
This is not the first time Kanye has come under fire for this sort of thing, as my guest John Proulx later points out. John was an easy pick for this interview because he's a hip-hop producer, and sampling is integral to the genre the two of us hold so dear.
